MEET THE FOUNDER — RootedNLoud
Hi, I'm Zara — the soul behind RootedNLoud.
And if you found your way here, you're already part of something bigger than a clothing brand. Welcome home.
The Day I Stopped Shrinking
I was 29 years old. Corner office. Six-figure salary. A seat at the table I'd fought for — for years.
I had everything I was told to want.
But every morning, I'd stand in front of my bathroom mirror and get dressed like I was putting on armor. Toning down. Covering up. Adjusting my voice, my words, my presence — just enough to make the room comfortable.
One Tuesday afternoon, I watched a colleague present a campaign I had quietly built from the ground up. My research. My strategy. My community — our community — monetized. Again.
He got the promotion. I got a smile and a "great supporting work, Zara."
I drove home in complete silence.
That evening I sat on my kitchen floor — heels still on — and called my grandmother. She didn't offer me solutions. She just said:
"Baby girl. The root of a tree doesn't apologize for taking up space. It just grows."
I hung up the phone. Opened my laptop. And started building something that would never ask me to be less than what I am.
That night, RootedNLoud was born.
Built From Nothing But Purpose
I didn't have a business plan. I didn't have investors or a warehouse or a team of ten.
What I had was a story — and the unshakeable belief that our community was tired of brands that talked at us without ever truly seeing us.
I grew up watching my mother work two jobs and still find time to braid my hair before church on Sunday. I watched my father pass down values that no school ever taught. I was raised by people who were rooted — deeply, unapologetically rooted — in culture, in faith, in identity.
And then I spent years in boardrooms trying to water all of that down.
RootedNLoud's first collection launched from my living room. The first orders came in from cousins, childhood friends, strangers who slid into my DMs asking where I got my shirt. Word spread the way real things always do — person to person, heart to heart.
Within three months, I handed in my resignation letter.
I've never looked back.
What This Brand Is Really About
RootedNLoud is not a streetwear brand with a Black aesthetic slapped on top. It's the opposite.
It is a declaration made by someone who lived everything that goes into it.
It's for the first-gen graduate whose parents sacrificed things you'll never fully know — so you could have the life they dreamed of.
It's for the professional who's been the only one in the room for years and never once let them see you flinch.
It's for the parent who shows up every single day — not because it's easy, but because legacy is built in the quiet moments.
It's for the one who grew their locs when the handbook said not to. Who spoke in their full voice when the culture said soften it. Who stopped explaining their existence to people who never deserved that energy.
It's for anyone who has ever chosen themselves — and needed something to wear that told the world exactly that.
We don't design clothes. We design declarations.
Rooted In Something Real
I'm a daughter. A granddaughter. A member of a community that has survived, created, innovated, and inspired the entire world — often without credit, without apology, and without stopping.
This brand is my contribution to that lineage.
RootedNLoud is not built on borrowed culture. It is the culture — made by one of us, for all of us, with every stitch carrying the weight of something that matters.
We are just getting started.
Have a question or want to share your story? I'd love to hear from you.
